In this week's Best of Preps I had the pleasure of writing about these outstanding scholars and athletes. This pair of slugger-siblings have been a constant presence on the baseball/softball scene in Benson since they could hold a bat.

In the article they open up about a recent loss and discuss how the family honors the memory of their loved one and his love for the game.

“It was the worst feeling ever,” Wyatt sadly recalled. He wears his grandfather’s initials, PW, scribed on his cleats. “I just come out here and do it for him.”

Sacha Wilharm watches her son at the plate, “Every time Wyatt hits a home run and crosses that home plate, he looks up at the sky. It’s like ‘There’s another one for you grandpa!’” she said."

Congrats to 2022 Cochise County Teacher of the Year Erin Gilbreth!

Gilbreth was this year's Elementary Teacher of the Year and then took the big award. Check out her acceptance speech during the luau themed awards ceremony this past Sunday, April 24, at at Events 161 in Sierra Vista.

The Cochise County Superintendent Jacqui Clay was the event's host, Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels presented the award.

Benson Varsity Baseball team suffers loss against the Thunderbolts

The Benson Varsity Baseball team suffered a loss Wednesday night in a home, non-conference game played against Mica Mountain Thunderbolts. 

The teams entered the 7th and final inning tied at 8. But the Thunderbolts, now 6-1 in the season, rallied to overcome the Bobcats with a final score of 8-10. 

Camren Hanamato (#8), who started the game at first base for the Thundebolts, was brought in to pitch the final innings. 

Next game for the Bobcats is home against Empire Ravens of Tucson, on Friday, March 11 at 3:30pm.
